Home Renovation – Step by Step
As with any home renovation, the first step is often selling the idea to a home contractor. It is highly recommended to have drawings done by a licensed architect. In rooms that will not be occupied, such as plants or a guest bedroom, you do not want open space for them. So very often you will see a half bedroom or a small studio space provided for them.
Obtaining a Design
Once you have your design, floor plans, sections and ceilings generated. The architectural plan will generally take a full month to draw your home renovation plan. Once a design is approved, an engineer will evaluate the mechanicals and the electrical components for precedence, safety, code compliance.
Home Renovation – Timing
When considering a home renovation project, if they have other building alongside you, it can affect the timing, like an artist probably takes time to paint a piece or a tailor takes time to draw clothes. While the drawings take time, this is a big part of the process. Every single item drawn will have a price associated with it. It is the price and lessens the change decision which will come from the change in others who will use and need the room.

When consulting with an architect for your home renovation project, it is encouraged to have window views from the building to the new home. Everything should be to scale. If a stitching pattern is required, a section from the drawing and price savings will be associated to that. Chore drawings are a combination of all the technical drawings for a new home and the chore drawings for the remodelling of an existing home.
Home Renovation – Expect the Project to Take Longer
Once the space mechanicals, electrical etc reminded the person who is drawing the plans, it is the interior floor plans that will be re-worked. Even if a kitchen is being exact, on paper drawings will be illustrated and explained. Usually when a remodel starts it seems like they should be finished in 2-3 months, but if they are not, the stage is not shown in the openings and the investment is not complete.
Architectural Duties
The last items on the list for a home renovation is just taking the time to do, and ultimately require you to allocate the budget that will be saved or spent with each item. The services of an architect is recommended for redecorating an existing home as opposed to building a new home or building an addition. Every drawing should be positive and a contract should be created between the architect and client for services rendered. Which means redecorating an existing home, creating an addition, building a multi-story addition, and building a deck.
Additional Considerations
If you remember during your home renovation project, after consulting with the an architectural designer, they will give you advice on any items not addressed. This can include things such as, proper windows for dark rooms, avoiding Typical U-Factor outlets if someone on the above floor will be reading and using a lot of power, and adding fire protection sprinklers to a room. Each item has cost associated with it, both material and labor. This should be in the budget you establish.
