Renovation Myths
As with many other types of things that people don’t fully understand, renovations are no different. There are plenty of renovation myths floating around out there that are just simply not true. Although some being more believable or at least understandable than others, it’s important you know the truth coming from experts in the industry. If you’re planning to have a renovation done in the next little while, keep reading, and we’ll tell you the cold, hard truth about common myths so you can be informed and knowledgeable!
Doing it Yourself Will Save Money
Starting off, doing renovation projects yourself will NOT always save you money. Now, for those who are experienced and skilled at certain trades, there is a good possibility you can save some money there. But if you tackle a renovation thinking you will save tons of money and it’s just as simple as that, then think again. For example, not doing a quality job will cost you in the long run. You might miss out on potential value increases in your home when work is not done properly.
Additionally, with this renovation myth, often the tools required to do the job can cost the same if not more than it would cost to just have a professional do the work for you. A professional who works in the industry invests lots of money into tools and equipment so they can re-use those tools for each and every job. If you go out and spend loads of money on tools just for a single job, you will be stuck with some expensive tools you’ll never need again. If you choose to sell these, you will probably only get a fraction of what you bought them for.
It’s Easy, Fast & Simple

Go Trendy
Another renovation myth here is that you need to try a trendy style when you undergo a renovation. This is simply not true. You should work with a contractor or whoever is doing the designing/construction of your renovation and find a style that you absolutely love. You can be trendy all you want but if it’s not what you love, you’ll want to change it much too soon.
Price = Quality
A bit of a more specific one of our renovation myths is that the amount that something costs is directly correlated with it’s level of quality. This is not true. Sometimes it might be the case but certainly not always. We’ve experienced products home owners chose to be used in home renovations that have been expensive and not worth it, but we’ve also experienced times when something does not cost a lot relative to other brands and has turned out to be a better product. So don’t base everything on the price tag.
